Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Thanks Marty! I am sooooooo excited for my geese and ducks. The whole family was just awesome with them!! They will be very loved, super spoiled, pets for life.... and I'm pretty sure I'll even get reports from them as the babies grow up. They belong to the same horse organization that hubby and I do (back country horsemen of utah), so we talked about getting together for rides this summer.

If the right family comes along for a few of your ducks, you will feel good about a temporary downsizing of your flock. IMO

Show pics once you wrap your sebbie baby. When I did it, I had to make it so tight that I was very worried about cutting off circulation as the breast rolled over the wrap, but my boy got around just fine with the tight wrap, and his wing was fixed after only 5 days (but we wrapped it within 1-2 days of it turning out).

Celtic: So sorry to hear about hubby! I hope he improves soon....sounds like a long, difficult time for you guys.

Utah: Hope your buff girl comes along quickly. Birds seem to heal pretty quick, and you have an awesome avian vet to help that along. She be right as rain soon!

Kevin: Play nice with them there chicken people! J/K LOL Yeah...everyone thinks they are an expert, and have no respect for those that are just happy to have nice, pretty birds. Gotta be the "expert's" way, or no way....jeesh!

Christine: Sorry to hear about your pointer...very sad news.

Marty: Congrats on the new Sebbie baby!

Ok....so lots to read and catch up on...probably didn't catch all of the highlights. I hope everyone's birds are well, and hatches are going/ or went well. Lots of stuff going on here...my plate has been full and overflowing. My geese and ducks are well...have sizzles in the hatcher right now.

Hubby and I just finished our first treatment of Platinum, our very expensive buff girl. Thank goodness for hubby, who did the actually administering while I held our girl. He's so good about that stuff and I'm not. The lance had closed and pus had filled up again, so you literally have to re-open the wound to drain it. Poor thing. It makes me so sad.

Hey Dutch.

Thanks, quackers. It is no fun. Hope to put her with a pair of grey dewlaps tomorrow. That should make her feel a little better.
How's things at your place?
Not too bad here. Just returned from the feed store and grocery shopping. Got five healthy ducklings that I get to keep. Tired today, but life is good.
Celtic - I hope they find answers, and are able to thus find a remedy for his malady.

Iain - I'll try to do a better job on the wrap today. I'll try the tuck, and see if it helps. Congrats on selling some goosies. I'm thinking about selling some ducks. I'd probobly regret it later, but right now I'm feeling tired of the work. In another few monthes though, I'll be over it. I know its just part of the transitional state of my life right now, and will probobly pass.

Christine - Sorry about your dog. When my beloved Kiser had cancer, we did the treatment, but it came back and I hat to put her to sleep. It was aweful. I hope he's comfy for awhile before the end comes.

My sebbie hatched overnight. She is very loud, and clearly has an opinion. SInce she's a lone hatch, and no eggs are due whatsoever for another 28 days, I guess I'll snag the lone grey toulouse, who is also a little guy compared to the others, and make them buddies tomarrow. I'm gonna watch her for a day, and be sure she's well and sturdy on her feat before. I mean, its a bigger goose, or a handfull of turkeys. I'm thinking the goose, but am open to the opinions of others.
Congrats on the Sebbie. A lone goose is hard to deal with. The crying.

I'd try to put her with another goose if possible. I gave my lone goosie a duck friend and they looked at each other and decided they weren't going to have anything to do with each other. They sat in the brooder, back to back and ignored each other, all the while crying like they were by themselves.

So thrilled with all our rotations today!!! I have my trio of utility toulouse together in one yard, Barley and the two healthy buffs (and the two ducks) in the other yard, and my injured buff is with Tank, my mellow grey dewlap gander. Other than Barley being a bit protective/territorial towards the two buffs, everyone is getting along great!! Whew!!

I love it when a plan comes together!!

Sorry I haven't been on today. I had a hair experience from hell. I was chemically straightening my hair as I always do and this time it fell out. ALL of it. I'm basically bald now. I bought a wig but it just doesn't look right on me. Today was just one of those days

Other than size is there really a way to tell the difference between a magpie and a ancona?
