Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I can't believe how tough she thinks she is. But she has me worried tonight. I found her twice splayed out completely tonight in pen. So, I have hobbled her loosely for the first time ever just now. She is walking around well with the hobbles. I'm waiting for her to lay down to see if she can stand up before I can go to sleep.

I know. I just feel bad because she wants to be outside, running around and eating grass, like a normal gosling. But seeing her tonight has scared me enough to not let her push herself that much again.

Thanks Utah! She's getting the royal treatment...though I don't think she thinks vaccinations and worming are very royal, lol. I had to hide her wormer in her feed, after I wore a bit on my shirt. At least I won't have worms, either, lol. She did well with the first round of vaccinations, though.

I know what you mean...hard to keep her from being a goose!

They make some good feed through wormer these days. I know what you mean. Hard to tell animals all the medical care you have to do for them is for their own good. Just like it is hard telling Spirit she has limitations. She is definitely doing better with the hobbles on tonight. I watched her get up on her own from laying position, even if she may have cheated and pushed off on her grey girl buddy laying next to her. Hubby will stay up for a while and keep checking on her so I can go to sleep.

It is past my bed time and I am whooped.

Good chatting with you tonight. Hope to see you around more often as the dark clouds slowly pass on by and you have more sunny days.

Can you believe it has been almost a month since I hatched anything? By this weekend, all babies (except crippled girl and a companion) will be out of the house. I am super hopeful crippled girl will be able to live outside with the rest, but she is not there yet. She cannot get out of the kiddy pool (or any water container more than a few inches deep, for that matter) without help and she gets so worn out from only a couple of hours of turnout time that she cannot get her legs under her to stand up later at night. But hey, she is now going 2-3 days at a time without falling over... and much to my displeasure, she wore herself out today chasing injured buff girl around the yard, kicking her butt. I was constantly having to stop her from bullying buff girl, even though buff girl is a lot bigger. So we are making great progress. She has her regular bi-monthly vet visit tomorrow, along with injured buff girl's one-week post surgery appointment. Hopefully I'll get good news on both of my girls!
A whole month? I could use a break yet people want ducklings!
Got a pic of the mystery ancona?
x2!
I would like to share some pics of my new mare, Ima Sandy Star, AKA Sandy. I had to put my gelding down, because he was losing his foot. I haven't been around much lately because of dealing with him, and being so depressed. This girl came into my life last Sunday, and though she isn't my baby boy, she very much needed me, and I needed her. Her hooves are in need of trimming really bad, and the farrier won't be out till the 16th. She needs some weight, and lots of love, as she's been standing in a pasture with no attention for about 3 years. She's a sweetheart, and I already adore her!

I'm sorry about your gelding! A new horse won't fill the hole, but she needs you and it's therapeutic to be needed.

You definitely gave her the right name! It shows.

Dutch, she is lovely. So glad she found a home with you. Very sorry about your boy, you did a great job with that injury that many others would have given up on when it happened.

The cabinet behind hubbies dewlap boy is my medicine cabinet in the brooder house. Love how much room I have in it, and that I can see in.

Had to turn the A/C on in the brooder house two days ago. Finally too warm out and needed it running. If we don't stop getting rain soon we will need an ark! Rainy season has hit full force and the ground is soggy from so much recently.

Hubby is just getting by, his command denied the doctor request to transfer him to a major medical facility. So we are back to no doctor here who can help him, and because he is active duty there aren't other options.
