Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Kevin, its going to be a hard call. If she showed signs of moving in water, i would say try brewers yeast and lots of water therapy. Not using the legs is very very troubling. Could she have gotten into something toxic? That takes much longer to recover from. (kinda thinking out loud here)

Marty,

Congrats to Julia, that is a great placement for a 2012 hatchling. Glad you aren't disappointed in the goslings, they come from strong stock and will be interesting to see if they meet SOP or where their faults are. Let me know about the one you hatched, we arent selling any single girls unless we end up with extras, cause I dont need the extra boys hanging around here.

Hey guys... speaking of muscovies, my avian sanctuary friend surprised called me to say he is on his way to deliver some female muscovy juveniles to add to my flock. I think he also wants to take home one of the african ganders as he has a solo african goose he wants to get a mate for.

I'll be sure to take pics of my new additions to get your opinions on them.

The ones at the avian sanctuary have really been growing on me. It's been fun watching them grow up over the past month. They seem to be very calm with lots of personality.

HEY UTAH !!!

Here are my new muscovy girls.

Richard thinks they are approx. 12 weeks old. We tried setting them out with my free range group, but my boys were too interested in them for my liking.... so they are now in my garage pen until we decide what to do with them.

I'll pick up some brewers yeast and keep trying water therapy. I'll give it till saturday then reevaluate the situation. I've thought about possibly something toxic but she was in a closed off pen away from everything and only free ranges when I'm out there.

Kevin I hope she bounces back. Toxins can be flushed using activated charcoal (added to fresh drinking water) or molasses. It can take weeks to fully bounce back from a poison or toxin. We had a gander get into mushrooms, was fine mid day by night round up was laying flat not able to move. Forced molasses water into him all evening. Kept him inside to be quiet with plain water. Next morning more flush followed by egg yolk and plain water. By day 5 he was outside in a small pen but wobbly. He is fine now and free ranges with everyone.

I did steamed oatmeal and eggs during this time along with food to keep his strength up and keep weight loss at a minimum.

I hope she pulls through K.
