Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

K this just happened to me, I had some of my cochin bantan chickens listed on Craigslist, and sold some, thought I wasn't going to get any more response since it had been a few weeks then yesterday someone contacted me and we have been talking back and forth till this evening nothing . I am thinking it is for the best I keep these little ones. I always worry about them going to a new home if they will be taking care of or not. Sorry it hasn't worked out for you.

Have you decided to get out of ducks?

Sorry Kevin. Guess the ducks want you to stay too. Must be the universe speaking.
I'm beginning to think so. It's been one heck of day.

. I hope you can find the right situation for your Cochins! I worry about the new homes too. Even if it's birds I'm not fond of them. We have a lot of Wackos around here. I want to keep the ducks but everyone keeps messing with them through the cage. It's secure with wire mesh but I'm afraid something will go wrong. I'm trying to get rid of most of the aggressive geese so hopefully the problem will seize.

Are you saying people are coming on your property and messing with you flock through their cages? I'm so sorry you would have to deal with this. Sorry I am being nosy. Just hate it when people don't respect others property.

I think at least once last week someone did. I have all of my duck pens organized down to the tee and several things were moved around. It's my least favorite part of living in the city. Too many people are nosy and crazy. Luckily every pen is locked with a lock but that won't stop everyone.

That is just awful, I don't think I could ever live close to people again, not after living out like we have for 17yrs. I remember all to well. Do you have motion lights set up outside? they may deter some from coming around. I hope you and your birds will be safe.

Hey all!

Been popping in from time to time, but wanted to share what I've been up to.

13 healthy ducklings, finished hatching yesterday.

And Number 14, who somehow hatched with an eye issue (gross warning):

Treating with Vetericyn. It starts looking better and then gets worse again. The duckling is quite possibly blind in that eye, but it seems to be dealing with its handicap. Going to talk with the avian vet tomorrow and see if I should add an oral antibiotic.

I've been looking at some properties lately so hopefully I can be in the middle of nowhere soon

. I do but they only seem to scare away the 4 legged predators

. Luckily so far I've never had anyone actually harm them yet and hopefully never will.
