Hey everyone! New to chicks and chickens.

Ive read handling them can be a vector for salmonella - have you experienced this with yourself? with your children?
Im vigilant and wash hands after handling and hand sanitizer if changing water/adding food

Any anecdotal experience and advice is appreciated :)

It can be. Eating fresh fruit, berries, or veggies without washing them first can be. I wonder how many thousands of fresh strawberries or blackberries I've picked and eaten without washing them. Petting a dog or cat can be, especially if it has been outside. Practically anything you do in life carries risk. You manage the risks of being injured in a car wreck by how you drive. Manage the risk of getting salmonella from chickens by washing your hands.
