Bantam coop is crazy with broodies this year. I've got 4 broody hens, 3 Silkies, & a Silkie mix. I have eggs under them. One clutch that's divided.

If I get a good circulation of broodies this year, I can get away with some broody raised chicks like I original had planned.


Malay eggs are the next to be collected, I'm collecting 5 eggs from them once the 3 weeks is up.
We're on Day 5 with the Eggs under the broodies, & with the Malay pair.

After this, I will be separating hens for the project.

One of my Malays lays eggs that look exactly like Turkey eggs, but are also glossy like duck eggs. Will get a picture later, or tomorrow.

Also, I figured out what these white speckles on the neck feathers are from.

It's linked to barring. I found some light barring on the front of her neck, near her chin. Pea, is starting to get white specks in her hackles too.

The Red Wheaten Malay pullet I have also has faint barring. But doesn't have the white specks, but has black instead.

Breeding will only confirm this though.

I'm thinking about hatching these, so I'll set them aside. Hopefully they're EE X Malay crosses. These are just for test hatching, see if they'd be any use for the project.

Day #1, & they have strong embryo development, now just gotta keep an eye on them.

21 eggs in the incubator, due to hatch the 5th, 6th, & 7th.

A mess of Ayam Ketawa, Malay, EE, & a few random mixed breeds.

Got a few remaining eggs left under the broodies. This whole broody hatch has been a flop.

Next hatch up next is pure Malays for a friend, Project crosses, & Experimental Meaties(Brahma/EE X Malay). Not all at the same time though.

Will pair a Cracker hen, & Sumatra hen with Goliath for this next breeding. Will probably cross the Cracker hen with my Sumatra rooster too, so she'll be fertilized by two roosters that I want to breed her too. It's the hen that has spurs.

Since these EE, & Malay eggs have the Potential to be fathered by a Malay, or EE I'm not separating the hen(s).
