Ticks and Firewood...

The ticks around here are horrible in the spring and early summer. They've been gone for over a month already, though, thank goodness. Nothing creeps me out like a tick.

My suggestion would be to get the wood outside, if that's at all possible.

I keep my firewood outside, until im ready to burn. Then I get the wood and put it right in the fireplace.

IMHO, try sprinkling DE on the wood pile, or if you really have a big problem that needs other solutions Soapy water or a plant oil spray. I am not sure of the hazards or if there are any if you spray the wood with a plant oil spray and let it dry for a week or so, should not be any worse than burning cedar in the fireplace. There are none that I can think of for the DE and it will work if it comes in contact with the tick. you could also look into some of the organic sprays like Ecoexempt or green lights bioganics. they are made with natural plant oil however that may be something to think about as I do not know the "inert" ingredients

only other thing I can say is hope for a real hard freeze.

DON'T use any chemical pesticide on the wood you will burn.

smoke em out,,, start a small brush fire,,greener the better, next to the wood pile outside, make sure the wind is blowing it into the wood pile,,,,,,yes i KNOW,,,just be careful not to catch ya firewood on fire too lol.

mix up a flea and tick spray in a garden sprayer and spray down the wood pile. Then once it's dry, the ticks will either be dead or gone until the freeze can take care of them for the rest of the winter.

Three things I hate the most:

1. snakes (live ones that is)

2. ticks (there is no good reason for them to even be alive)

3. leeches (had a bad run in with them when I was a kid and was covered in them. I am now terrified of the things)
