So the other day my bardrock hen laid a super small egg. I thought nothing of it and heard later that it was normal. I thought it was weird but washed it and put it into my fridge.

Well today I was making meatballs and needed some extra moisture. I didnt particularly want a whole other egg, so I was going to add the itty bitty one.

And oh. my. word. It was so nasty. It was completely filled with blood with a stringy clot thing inside it. I do have a rooster.. does it just look like a fertilized egg or do you think something more serious is going on? I didnt know I was killing a baby chicken ☹

Fairy eggs occur when the bird´s reproductive system is first starting to work, its just a kink getting worked out. The clot and blood is just a piece of tissue from somewhere along the track, and the shell formed around it.

No it definatley isnt a normal occurance and she has been laying for a while now. There have been some occasional (maybe like twice) times that she has had some blood ON the outside of her egg but never inside it and definately not like this! I was shocked!
She's been laying for maybe half a year or a little more?

Keep an eye on it and if it happens again give us another post. I find it strange but chickens are rather strange too.

Weird and bloody eggs happen, usually just a glitch.
Hopefully there won't be a next time...
...but if there is, put the contents in a shallow white dish or plate to see what's there better. Really curious as to what the "a stringy clot thing inside it" looked like.

This is the fairy egg we cracked open today.

Last week the same girl had an egg break inside. She expelled it, laid two normal eggs then this one.

Our girl is a barred rock born in March 2019.

Hope your girl us doing okay.

I experienced the same thing today. Is this a type of lash egg?
