Tiny call duckling

I'm very sad to say that the duckling, Dumpling, just died in my arms. She went downhill very fast today and I knew she wasn't going to make it much longer. She was definitely suffering right before she passed (thrashing, unable to hold her head up, throwing her head backwards) so I'm glad she's not suffering anymore, but extremely upset that she didn't make it. Thank you all for your help and support.

So sorry for your loss. If it brings you any comfort, you gave her some wonderful days of life! My theory is that some hatch, even when they shouldn’t. I’d like the think if they can hatch, they should survive! But nature doesn’t always work that way. So just the chance to breathe for a few days, and have you holding her when she passed was better than her dying inside the egg.
