As I read through the forum taking in patterns and issues posted, it occurs to me that a "tip of the day" thread in support and feedback OR as a banner might be helpful.

Tips of the day could certainly include information already posted that deserves reminders, especially as there are many new posters daily, etc. and are otherwise tiring and tiresome for moderators to post and remind from thread to thread.

Thoughts, Nifty?

Or a random generating tip... Create a database for the tips to come from, and have them randomly generate each time the page is refreshed...

ps- great idea btw

Sounds like a great idea... I'm still trying to find the sticky notes I keep seeing mentioned.. LOL

LOL, go to Index page, in the blue bar above. Each forum you choose will likely have a sticky or ten at the top.
This is the first I had ever joined, I spent a lot of time prowling around before I knew what a sticky was.

Fabulous example of a "tip of the day":

And one of my own:

If you think your bird(s) has coccidiosis or Marek's, search those topics first before posting. You may find your answer is already there (several times).

I like the random generating one. Might even be able to do seasonal tips, like in the winter about fire safety and heaters in the coop or like in spring about fire safety and heat lamps.

I think randomly generated is fine, too. I also think there is room for a tip of the day that addresses current issues.

For example, if we have a current tip of the day that addresses meaningful thread titles, and perhaps repeat that tip a few times in a week or two, meaningful titles might catch on. Poster to poster might reiterate amongst each other the value in meaningful titles. The forum would benefit as the titles might not go overlooked or unnoticed or misunderstood, but then meaningful replies might follow.

Catching on + reiterating = improved forum and more satisfied posters.

@Nifty, while I'm thinking about i, and before I forget, an "on rollover" feature that would prompt a glimpse of the OP would also save time clicking and going back to the forum index. It would be a more efficient way of searching the forum for threads that one wishes to read or reply to. I for one would appreciate this feature.

Lots of great ideas and suggestions, thanks!!!

A "tip of the day" sounds like fun. There are a few ways we could implement this, but we need our members help in suggesting what should be on the list!!

So, what features, tools, rules, information, and general tips do you think you would like to know if you were brand new to BYC?
