Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Thank you SO much for sharing these. I can't thank you enough. That's heartbreaking about Boon. He was stunning! All your birds look incredibly healthy and well loved. You're an excellent chicken keeper!

I'm actually feeling a bit better about my grow outs after seeing your pics. I'll grab some pics from today and tag you. 1/3 is 100% rooster. The other 2's combs are small but seem awfully red for 6.5 weeks old. Maybe I have a trio after all? :idunno
Please tag me, too, if you don't mind. It's awesome to see them at the different stages!
The wait for mine to hatch is getting tough, lol.

I’m finding that with a bunch of different breeds growing at one time, it’s very hard to tell who’s what. The Barnevelders look like cockerels, but their combs and wattles say otherwise. Blue Laced Red Wayandotte cockerel tricked me for 10 weeks.

10 weeks turned red and crowed.

7ish maybe 8 weeks old. Only sign of a cockerel was size.

I won an auction for 36 hatching eggs from Foxfire, shipped across the country. One egg was cracked. I received them earlier than expected, so I wasn't able to start them right away (incubators were in use).
So far, 25 of the remaining 35 are developing well. Unfortunately, all 3 of the Gold laced Orpington eggs are clear. :(
Otherwise I am very happy with them. A very nice variety. The embryos appear to be strong, based on their movement.
I am anxious to see the chicks!

What did you end up paying?

I don't think my blue marans is going to make it. It seems so squishy and weak and lethargic. :(
Just a quick update on the little Blue marans that looked like it wasn't going to make it:

She's still kicking, at 10 days old! Besides losing some blood and having a herniated navel, and looking like she was coming down with mushy chick, she ended up with spraddle leg (someone else sat on her), pasty butt, and is significantly smaller than her hatch-mate. But she's loud, and eats and drinks and poops, and is getting stronger every day, and the leg issue was corrected by a bit of bracing. I don't feel safe integrating her with the group that hatched 12 days earlier unless supervised - they look like huge dinosaurs compared to her. But she's now my teeny secretly favourite baby.

Here's the 3 Isbar I have remaining. They're 6 week 4 days old. Any thoughts on male/female for the blue birds? Obviously the Splash is a roo! As long as he's nice he's a keeper.

The other 2 Isbar that hatched were also obvious roos. They had large combs bright red combs at 2-3 weeks. Identical to the Splash.

Beautiful! My fiirst impression on the blues was pullets, but then in the last pic, front one's comb looks pretty pink. Hmmm.. I am going with 2 pullets for the blues.
Thanks for the pics! :love
