Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

The sendor of my PID thermostat keeps malfunctioning. Can I replace it with any temperature sensor? Or is this machine-bound?

Are you talking about inside the incubator
Yes, I removed the plastic nesting meterial and put the shelf liner in. Now I hope that nothing more goes wrong and I can keep my hands off the eggs untill they hatch or you can find me in the nearest mental hospital.

I also put some extra bowls of water in there and the humidity went up to 61% so for now I am one happy camper.

I hope the colder spots and me changing the eggs around again didn’t hurt the chicks and they will still hatch fine.

I don't have any first hand experience with homemade incubators other than wanting to make one so I'm no help here. Do you have a secondary thermometer so you can adjust it?

Is that glass on the front or plexiglass. That is so cool. I would be watching my eggs like a movie if I had that.. anyway maybe make sure once finished with this hatch that all edges are sealed real good

I just candled all my eggs Iam going to set today (16), and my 12 year old grandson handed me an egg to set when I asked him where got it from he told that my Barred rock just laided it. That means if fertil it would be a cross of a barred rock and a lavender Orphington, should I set this egg?

Since you're so close to hatch day I would personally wait until after the chicks hatched and maybe collect some more eggs to put in the incubator with your other egg.

well, it does show the correct temperature when it works, but it keeps giving this error message once in a while and then the lamps go off, so that’s no good. As long as it isn’t being touched it just does its job, but I m worried about when the chicks hatch they will peck it and it will go off again. I’ve got 5 thermometers in there.:p

It is an aquarium that I insulated using some left over materials from insulating our roof. Last week it was spot on with the temperature all over for several days so I guess that things just needed to go difficult today. Anyway, right now it seems to be doing well.

Woke up this morning to a pip in the right egg. Problem is the pip is in the wrong end of the egg. Today is day 20 for these babies so it's right on time thank goodness. Nothing yet for the other two but maybe if this one gets out it will make the others want to get moving.

Did you collect 16 eggs or are your eggs at day 16?
