Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

If you start to feel desperate, I just learned yesterday that even if vets won't see chickens some of them are still willing so send fecal floats to labs to give you some possible answers even if they don't do exams. I hope he starts to perk up soon!

I'm honestly thinking he got injured by Squatch. He's showing no signs of worms or respiratory virus. His chest gets a pooping noise sometimes when he breathes, I think it's more internal than anything. He was a free chicken, but I've become very attached to him. We are doing everything medically possible that we can do besides surgery because that's not a road I'll go down on my own.

I feel like I'm back working/interning at the vets again thought those days were over with.

I just realized the ducks will be hatching in 5 days.

Anything is possible, Squatch is a big boy, he's certainly capable! What does his crop feel like? Popping sounds can be respiratory or sometimes crop related if he's dealing with an impaction or sour crop.

Me too! I'm hoping to order more eggs since only one was fertilized. But I've heard of TSC having them so I may just go that route, too. We'll see. I'm glad at least one made it.

Yes! They aren't even my duck eggs so that's why I want them gone they're ruining my hatching flow

No I think I'm set on the ducks. I have my 4 and I think I'll keep it at that.

He's on dewormer and antibiotics right now. No chicken vets anywhere near me we are in the sticks.

Not for now I’m obviously, but for general worm knowledge once a year or so there are fairly inexpensive mail in fecal tests. I just found out about them.

I’ve got horses and worming is a hot button issue because the historical pattern is you throw a specific series of rotational dewormers At them regardless of what you k ow they have.

now they want you to do fecals samples before worming. To be REALLY good you should do them almost every month.

I’m realllllllly thinking of getting my own microscopethat connects to computer so you can take photos. That way I could learn and do it on my own. Plus I could monitor my chickens poop....
