To those who put vinegar in the water...

I put 1 tablespoon per gallon and break it down from there if you have a smaller container. I have given mine acv since they were a few weeks old.

My 5-Gal waterer is pretty much down to empty after 2 days from my 19 GC's. I take a quick brush to the outside, blast out the inside with the hose, fill it back up and put in 1/4 cup of ACV. They go for it right away! Like I say, I do it because of the algae. The nutritional value is an added bonus.

The ACV does keep algea down and makes them fluffy. As for the mites, I use diatomaceous earth. I put it in their dustbath with sand. I also use it for their bedding in the coop. You may have trouble finding it. Be sure it is food grade DE. I asked the feed store to special order it in 50# bag. I put a pinch in their water with ACV.

hi everyone! i am curious about these "nipple waterers". are they like hamster/rabbit bottles? also i am concerned with rusty galvanized waterers: is the rust dangerous or preventable? i would imagine ACV would really get the oxidization going on the metal...

I would like to know about putting ACV in metal containers also.

Anyone?

Also--it is not exactly vinegar, but does anyone use an organic wormer and have you been satisfied?

You want to use apple cider vinegar. And most of us use Bragg's 'with the mother'.

And it needs to be organic, which has the "mother" in it. Looks like dreggs in the bottom of the bottle. The non-organic doesn't have that.

Putting ACV in water in a galvanized metal waterer would probably not be a good thing as Martha would say... The ACV is acidic and will probably start to leach away at the zinc in the metal. Use a plastic one if you can.
