toenails

I have one hen that the nail on one of her toes is extremely long. Does anyone know about trimming the nails on a chicken's feet

You can trim them like with most other animals, just don't cut to close to the inner quick. I use a dremmel w/a sandpapper disk to do mine.

i use a regular dog toe nail trimmer, the one that has a "stop" on it so you can't cut too much. works on spurs too. just don't trim too much off at a time.

Thanks, that was what I had thought but it doesn't hurt to check. That's what makes this a great site

I use a regular toenail trimmer (the same kind tha that I use on my own nails). If by accident I cut the quick (very rarely) I did the nail into cornstarch and it staunche the bleeding just like a stypic pencil. It's much more economical.
