I've kept a rogue cockerel separated over the winter in frigid temps.....
.....he was not happy to be separated, but he was fine otherwise.

Good to know! I figure they are kept separate pretty frequently. I stuck him in with the girls last night, and I'm glad I did, because it turns out their water warmer is not working, and i wouldn't have been out to check on them as early if I hadn't had to get him out. and his toe was fine.
