Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

First one hatched and he's got a skill for crowd surfing! 20200229_154318.jpg

Hi all, well all 4 eggs in the lockdown hatched!

The 3rd to hatch (8am today CST) is still struggling to stand up fully. It hops around with it's feet in front of itself (not out to the side). It's knee (lower joint on thigh/upper scale leg-foot) seems to go out away from the body & feet move in a little (pidgeon toed). It is a bigger chick, but it doesn't raise it body up & stand tall like everyone else (even the last hatched at noon) can stand tall. We tried to vet wrap just below that joint on see if holding the knee in closer to the body is what is needed. I let the drama calm down after the wrapping session. It appears it is now standing tall! See the attached pic, it is the dark tan chick.

Does anyone have other ideas? How does one wrap these tiny wiggling legs! I dont wanna stress the little guys out.

Congrats on the great hatch! Is it splay leg or a slipped tendon? I find I have the best results with vet wrap as well so if it's working I would stick with if for a few days and hopefully that will strengthen his legs enough that he doesn't need it anymore.

8 littles in the brooder so far and 8 still to see tomorrow. 4 of those have pipped. Tomorrow will be day 21 for half of them. (The remaining six of the 22 are Tuesday to keep things interesting.)

I wanted to experiment on the resting times after shipping whether it made a difference to wait the full 24 hours, but 2 of tomorrow's eggs have already hatched and 2 of todays eggs are still deciding so... may not have made any difference. 20200229_203049.jpg 20200229_202908.jpg
