I never thought that this would be a bad thing but I think BYC is to big. When I first got started one of my girls was dying and I got answers when their wasn't any on Google. Not to long ago, we had a supposed Mareks in our flock. I posted about it and by 20 minutes it was on the second page. Never did get all of the help I needed. I think maybe we should do something like: Make the Injuries and D. two Seperate ones so that folks can get their questions answered without bumping.

Thank you for reading

I spend more time on this forum than I'd like to admit and the Lord knows I can be picky but I don't see bumping as a big problem. Of course it can be if enough people complain about it. One mans' emergency is anothers' "oh well".

About bumping, I'm guilty. I bump posts from new members that have been ignored. I think as BYC members, we should at least have the courtesy to answer new members questions, or at least respond to it. I was one of the ignored newbys once, & I almost didn't come back to BYC because I was ignored, but as you can see, I'm a stuborn one!

so if someone were to say ask a question at say noon on friday.... and there was no replies by noon on saturday.. if that person goes back to the thread and asks.. can anyone help me..would you consider that bumping... or would you perfer if they started a whole new thread asking the same question?

one is sorta bumping and one could be called spamming..

The way you state it, I dont consider it bumping. I consider it "nobody answered it before it reached too far back for people to read".

Now for example, I "bumped" this thread earlier today. Not to get an answer, not to add any relevant info and certainly not because I had something productive to say. I was simply bored

Now THAT folks, is "bumping" at it's finest! Because I got people to respond for several hours afterwords, which met my needs for interaction. It's a skill, finely tuned over hundreds of threads here in the annals of BYC!

It's not easy being me folks, just ask my wife.

As the rules say

6. No Spam. Spamming is posting the same thing several times. "Bumping" (posting to move a thread up on the forum list) and cross-posting (posting the same thread in several forums) are examples of spam.

There is a difference between bumping an emergency post after a few hours and bumping a thread after 10 minutes because no one advised you on your prom dress.

Bumping for frivolous reasons...or just because.... shouldn't be done. The only time is in the Emergency section and waiting a few hours is a general guideline.

Glad you cleared that up. I was wondering the same thing. The Emergencies Diseases section moves so quickly and after a few hours you are on the second page, and that stinks when you have a chicken's life on the line.
