Tornadoes?

Hello from stormy Louisiana!

Just sitting here in bed pondering about storm situations. The sky is looking a little green and from my time in Oklahoma I fear a tornado may be brewing.

In Oklahoma we had storm shelters and level homes with basements but here in the south all the houses are raised and there are no basements as they would flood or be damaged my the saturated ground...

Anywho. I am banking on my bathroom as a safe spot for my dogs, although it is on an outside wall and my water heater is in it, I figure the bathtub is the best option.

My ducks though, they are currently still in their shed which is on a cement slab, but It’s between two houses and I feel like they would be much safer in there than anywhere else.... I debate going in there because it’s ground level but I know flying debris would tear it up!!

I’m a worry wart, but I would like to be prepared. What are your suggestions/your preparations?

I have seen the weather and it could get bad. I would bring them in, but do you have a place to put them? I hope the weather will stay clear. It is a little rainy here and I still get worried.

I’ll put them in the bathtub with me and put the dogs in their kennel between the tub and toilet I suppose!

I was in a similar situation this past October. Sad to say in Tornado weather, unless you have an underground shelter and have the time to put your animals inside, you have to think of yourself and keep yourself safe as possible in this type weather event. In some cases it doesn't matter what you do, if a tornado is an F5 everybody in its path is at risk for death. I lucked out as at the last minute the tornado changed direction, jumped about then proceeded to rip apart the neighbor's pasture across the road. Then the storm proceeded to spawn several more tornadoes that destroyed a manufacturing plant and other places of business. Mother Nature is a witch and when she goes on the warpath you have to think of your family first then your animals.

Having said that, put your mind to work and think of ways to keep your animals safe. Making a bunker under the ground is what I'm thinking of. But you will still need time to get everyone inside, in cages and safe from the family dog, cat and mother-in-law.
