Toulouse Geese Thread

Lydia, I raised my toulouse, Chicory, with a cayuga duckling and my 1st buff dewlap girl, Barley, with a silver appleyard duckling.  When they were a month old, I blended the two pairs.  A month later, I got a trio of two month old buffs shipped to me, and I moved the cayuga and appleyard to the coop with the other ducks when I integrated the buff trio with Chicory and Barley.  Ducks and geese all adjusted beautifully, but it is a gradual process for geese to build new relationships.
My geese swim and hang out with my 6 week old call ducklings :) The call ducks are more vicious then the toulouse by a long shot!

YAY!! A new breed thread!! I think Toulouse geese are very pretty - there's something about that grey feather & orange feet/bills color combo. I've seen in some of the pictures posted taht they also come in buff (didnt know that!), are those the only colors that they come in? I saw a white goose on a couple of pictures, but I dont knwo if that's a different breed. Also, is it a characteristic for them to have lobes?

Lobes being their fat between the legs right?

Yes. It is :)

There are two types of toulouse... production and dewlap. Both have lobes (baggy bottom look between legs). The dewlaps also have keels (fat rolls off breast bone). Obviously, the dewlaps also have dewlaps. The original color is grey. Buff color was developed in the US in the past 50 years. I have heard of white as well, but have never seen one.

Gotta say that the Exhibition Dewlap Toulouse are much prettier. The others just remind me of the pilgrim goose.

Not saying that they are any less nice.. But this is the Toulouse thread, and don't tell the Pilgrims, but Toulouse are much cuter

WelI I hate to say it but no watermelons for flock today 6.98 for a small melon.

Yikes, Lydia!! Walmart has been doing specials here.... $4.50 for a medium sized watermelon. Otherwise, we hit the local produce stand. They are $8, but are huge, i.e. 30-35 lbs each.
