I think they are quite expensive, what a nice present for you to have just showed up in your yard and making himself right at home. Maybe eventually his mate will arrive.Ahh, Kevin (named for the "snipe" Kevin in the animated movie "UP!") just showed up on my property a couple of weeks ago. The day before, one of my neighbors asked across the fence if I had seen the peacock... Where? In her driveway, earlier. Nope. I have never wanted peacocks because of the blood-curdling screams....
The next evening, he was in my yard. He has since made himself quite at home. No screaming yet, just a few barks. He "talks" to me and now runs with the flock when they see me and all come running to greet me. He has ALMOST eaten out of my hand. I can walk by him now and he won't sidle away.
Folks on the NorCal thread say he is about a year old. (I posted a couple of pictures there.)
I am becoming quite fond of him.
Yes, I know - I actually refer to him as my Free Peacock; volunteer just sounded more appropriate in my signature lines. It wasn't like someone "gave" him to me for no payment. The other day I saw a peahen and a poult crossing the road about three miles from my house and I wondered, "Is this Kevin's family and he abandoned them?". He had nothing to say when I questioned him about it. Now, to keep this to the topic, the goslings want to bill him because he doesn't look like any chicken in the flock and they've already established their High Gooseness Rank with the chickens. Sarge the MW dislikes Kevin, but I think it's because he doesn't understand how this bird thing got here; all my other poultry have been hatched here and grown up with the flock. Plus, Kevin also gets on the roof of my house, which is Sarge's favorite guard post. The ganders just ignore Kevin. They are secure in their Gooseness Status.I think they are quite expensive, what a nice present for you to have just showed up in your yard and making himself right at home.
