Toulouse Geese Thread

yes, we have been on the hunt for another to use with the buff toulouse, I think Goliath is going to work out very well. He watched the birds tonight and followed the goats some, but went and laid in a hole near the buff dewlap yard while we did rounds. Going to use him out front tomorrow with the juveniles who are for sale.

Yeah, another goose breed thread I can participate in: I only have two breeds so that is a big deal for me!

I got my first set of Toulouse on April 4th as part of an order of waterfowl from McMurray Hatchery. I wasn't really worried about whether they'd be high quality or not since they were free: I had won a photo contest and gotten a $100 gift certificate as a prize.

However, I can say I am very pleased overall with how they have turned out. At 4 1/2 months old, the gander has surpassed all my Pomeranians in size and the goose has caught up with them. I really like having the color in amongst the Pomeranians too. I think they are very pretty geese and fairly even tempered as well.

Ozzie, my Toulouse gander, seems to be the leader/head gander of the the juveniles from the front coop and John, my original Pom gander, leads the flock of his goslings. When all the geese are together, the two seem to walk side-by-side and share leadership of the flock.

Here are a few pictures of my pair, Ozzie and Harriet out with their friends this afternoon.

Ozzie and company blocking my driveway while grooming, which is a daily occurance:

Well we're on day 8 with our new Toulouse girl and I can already see a difference in her for the better. She seems to feel more at home and loves our big Embden gander, he still won't let her get too close if she tries he drops his head down as a warning, but they have been hanging out in the driveway just about all day so he's beginning to warm up to her. I am keeping him and the 2 ducks he was so bonded to separate this is day 3, do you think after a few weeks he will not be bonded to them anymore and I can let them out of solitary confinement[jk] they have 6 other ducks with them. But I was told maybe 2 weeks and he should be bonded with the goose?

Lydia, I raised my toulouse, Chicory, with a cayuga duckling and my 1st buff dewlap girl, Barley, with a silver appleyard duckling. When they were a month old, I blended the two pairs. A month later, I got a trio of two month old buffs shipped to me, and I moved the cayuga and appleyard to the coop with the other ducks when I integrated the buff trio with Chicory and Barley. Ducks and geese all adjusted beautifully, but it is a gradual process for geese to build new relationships.
