Tractor Supply Chicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I so far am disappointed in my local TSC.When I first started with chickens three years ago they were an amazing help and the employees were very friendly. The first year when I lost 5 bantams within a day they gladly replaced them for me. Last year I ordered from Meyer online and was very happy with my purchase. This year I just stopped in to get feed and brought some barred rocks home, one died within 24 hours and I have been battling pasty butt with the rest. They haven't had much in stock except for some "straight run" yellow chicks, random assortment of ducks and the specialty breed (barred rocks). When I called to see if they would replace the lost chick, the man was very rude and told me that they won't replace birds. I asked why they have done so before and he had no answer. Very strange and the quality this year has not been the best. I think I shall be ordering again online next year.

. Prices are higher than ordering online from Ideal. do
I really have to wonder about this. We've purchased hatchery chicks the last two years. This year my husband was making up the order. When he added shipping on, he said, "Forget it."
We went to Tractor Supply and got what we wanted for less than 1/3 of what the hatchery order would have been.

Our TS was 2.99 for pullets and must be bought in lots of six. I have since placed an order online from the same hatchery my TS uses and only paid $2.75 per chick including shipping and taxes.

Were you putting in a big order? I'm building my flock slowly and was getting only 10 each time so with a hatchery, shipping was at a premium. Plus trying to get a very few of different breeds, sometimes they're not available to ship at the same time. TS had what my husband wanted so he could get everything at once so for us it was less expensive. Had I wanted a large order, it might have been a different story.

Iordered 10 chicks. Exact breeds i wanrd. My TS st o res dont have grear variety. Mostly leghorns which I do not want. I got 18 from TS and hoping at least a few are not leghorns.

You got 10 chicks for 27.50 shipped? That's a great price.
My husband wanted six that were $6.00 each and then shipping was $40.00 for a total of $76.00. We checked the price of several hatcheries that were closest to us and the price difference was negligible. So we didn't order.
Then we found them at TS for 2.99 apiece so we got them for $17.94, a savings $58.00.

I got 6 chicks from tractor supplies after my mcmurray hatchery chicks came all dead. Plus i got 41 chicks coming from a different hachery and only cost $70.40 where my mcmurray order cost $107.40 for 26 dead chicks.

I'm assuming that was not intended as a remark towards me as I take even my adult birds to a vet when needed. But that could be the reason why, I do not think their quality is as good as it has been though in recent years.

sorry not meant as an attach on you but the possible reasons why the store does not refund chicks, I work retail and you would be surprised what people do and still expect a refund. like buying something with a manufacturing label stating made for one company and wanting a different comp0any to refund their money. Why buy Wal mart items and return them to K mart as an example. I knew one woman left her vegetables on her kitchen cabinet and wanted the store to refund her money they never did because she was stupid enough not to put it in the refrigerator.
