Tractor Supply Employee Knowledge About Chicks

Hey guys,

Go to the the TSC website find the store number in your area and tactfully complain. I did this recently and was shocked that they responded to my email in less than two hours. I complained about the store employees not knowing when they would have chicks or what breeds. The store manager called me to give me the exact date the chicks would be in and what breeds they would have. When I visited the store to get chicks they had the bins labeled with the breeds.

Funny story from TSC last year. A lady was in there and asked what kind of ducks are these and the guy said "Plain White Ducks" I looked at them and told her they were Pekings the guy then said "No Sir they are "Plain White Ducks" I smirked and said Dude there is no breed called Plain White Ducks. He said well that's what my manager said they were. I said OK my bad, ya'll have a nice day. lol

I know that feedstores don't have experts working there but they could at least look at the shipping label from the hatchery and know what they are selling.

I was raised to do a job right and not half-@$$ it, and I don't understand those that think they're so dang awesome they don't have to. As long as people try to do their jobs right I don't mind, but most of these people nowadays don't even pretend to care. I don't give a dang what your salary is, if you're not doing your best then you don't deserve a penny of it. That's the way I was brought up and I live by that standard. I can see some kid just getting out of school not knowing much, but believe me, my first non-farm job I got there early and learned everything I could about where I worked. Take ACE Hardware for instance (where I live they're a town joke,) not one of those people cares, you go to ask them a question and they literally scatter, you have to chase them down. Do you think that makes a good employee? Of course no one can know everything, but at least trying to learn helps a lot. I think those are the kinds of people that most, if not all, here are refering to. We're not saying we're better by any stretch of the imagination (at least I know I'm not,) but if you're going to work somewhere, at least try to learn what all you carry.

A1 I could not agree with you more!!! Thank you for sharing your beliefs! If a person earns a wage for a job they should care about what they do and do their best. My Dad always said "Son if you grow up to be a ditch digger then dig the straighest ditch you can, take pride in your work and you will sleep well at night."

At least the one guy at my feedstore has some knowledge!!

Exactly! My parents always said the same thing! If you sell widgets, be the best widget salesperson out there. I see so many people barely doing thier jobs. I don't expect full knowledge, but please know what I am asking for and where it is, and if you don't, get off your duff and find out!

I know Lowes here likes for their employees to have some experience working in the field of their department. They couldn't believe my mom knew plumbing and carpentry. LOL My dad always made sure we all knew how to fix stuff. Thank God for Parents that require their kids to learn more than what is in books! The real world is what counts!!! My buddy in high school asked me to help change his sparkplugs. I said sure. He started to pull all the wires off the distributor! I flipped. ( I know some of you are already lost) I could not believe he didn't know how to do it! I thought every ones dad taught them this stuff. Lil did I know. LOL I have thanked my dad many times for my upbringing even the stuff I didn't like at the time! Now I realize how smart he really was and is! We were taught " if you can't fix it, you don't need it!" "If you want it, Figure out how to fix it!" " learn from your mistakes and don't repeat them! and Ask for help! No shame in trying to learn!

God Bless!!!

I just read the whole thread and HOLY COW I never realized how many feed stores know absolutely NOTHING about what their selling :hmm. I guess I must have gotten off extremely lucky lol cuz at my feed stores that sell chicks, with the exception of one, are very informative...well were. I actually know some stuff even those guys don't (not to be a know it all or anything of course). Although I have to say my fave know it all moments are at PetSmart when I'm explaining some thing rodent, dog or guppy related to some of the staff lol. Their faces are priceless

I never use my TSC store but after reading this thread I thought I would visit and since they currently have chicks in stock. Wow, a chain store of stupid. How can they not know the breeds they bought?

What is with the 6 chick minimum purchase? I wanted to get a couple of mystery chicks, but I didn't want 6 of them.

This forum makes me feel muuuuccch better:

I went into our feed store and asked if they had chicks. So the guy told me "YES".

Great - I can feel the blood pumping through my veins as I ask "What kind do you have?"

The guy tells me, " White ones and Red Ones."

Like Duh - What was I thinking?

I just smiled and said "thanks, I'll me back."

I get home and start to rant to my husband about how the guy at the feed store treated me like I was a
"DUMB BLOND" (sorry to my blond friends on BYC

) and totally ignorant of chickens!

Now, I realize that the guy may not of really known any better and wasn't making fun of me!

yeah I had a huge laugh a few weeks ago ... we had a Rural king open up...somehow cackle sent them all their chics mixed up ... no names.. so I was helping the people to tell what .. was what .. I felt so sorry for them I brought them down a catolog from cackle so they could tell the difference in the birds... I just felt sorry for them tho... a chicken is a chicken is a chicken .... well to some people...
