Tractor/trailer coop build

Been a while. Hope the good people here are all in good spirits. Good year on the farm, but no chickens.

Flu popped up down the road, and sacked plans for the year. From what I understand once that virus is in your soil, itsa nowa good.

Hope to bring the birds this spring.

Gives me more time to hook up gutter and water storage area.

Long time no see 👋 Coop is still up, and in need of a gutter. Also need a water direction contraption to split the down spout between collection and runoff. Getting chicks this year for sure, wish me luck.

Planning to work the interior of the coop over this winter, will share pics.

I believe I've got a grip on roosting space, and ventilation looks good. Torn on the laying boxes tho. Considering using milk crates, as i have a few lying around. I've seen farmers just attach a short front panel to keep the shavings in.

Food is also top of mind. I already have a red wiggler farm, perhaps i need a mealworm production area
🤔

Well, it's nice to be back in Bird mode, and even considering some meat birds in the not too far off future🤞

A big thank you to all of the chicken peeps who chimed in here, and helped me get the coop done correctly. Thank you!!!

Back soon with some coop stuff, have a great day.

Gutter done, now I need a roof for our run.

Putting finishing touches on the interior. I mocked up the main roost bar with a fishing rod. Mocked a small roost above the nests too.

Any suggestions welcome @aart . Ramp mock on right, just one clear added at top for now. This seems good, thoughts?

Floor will be lined with hardware cloth under 3/4” plywood with a pond liner topper.

Is there enough room to fly down from the area where the drill is? Without bashing into the wall?
I have big meat mutts and maybe the take more room.

If you put a "stump" such as a stack of a couple of cement blocks in front of the nests, they can hop up to the top of the nests and then up to the poop board. I think they would be more likely to use it. It would give you few more inches of usable floor space too.

They might hop/fly to the top of the nests without using the "stump", I'm not sure with how narrow the space is and it may matter what breeds you get. Mine hopped up regularly but had plenty of space for wings to help and had standard type of feathers.
