it will grow in a clump until you move it, we have had clumps here to be 3-4 ft across, i have seen bigger, but the more you cut or dig the more it grows. if you never cut or dig it just keeps growing in that spot and gets huge. The bigger it gets the harder to get it up though. The roots are only about 3-4 inches below the surface and they act like achors. GPN
 
I'm thinking I'll take the monkey grass, I need to make some 'natural' nesting areas for my ducks.
