If its a rock cross would the hens be ok as adults? or would it be like cornish rock crosses?

really I don't think it is, out of the 5, 2 are developing the combs the other 3 have really small combs (including the redish one). side note, the guy that I bought mine from said that the hens were red rocks period not crosses, and the roos are either white plymoth(sp?) rocks or red rocks. someone told me that

(oldtimers) used to call RIR, red rocks.

Okay, I saw this and checked out the other post about these Trader Joe's eggs. Does anyone know what breed they are? Are all of chickens from these eggs white, or are there a mixture of colors? Where do you get them? I was just curious.

The Trader joes ones from white eggs are probably Hy line, or white leghorn chickens.
(mine are not TJs eggs though, just some fromm Lucky's grocery store) Farm says they use RIR but the chicks dont look it, last one is all yellow with a single black spot on the wing (he is now nicknamed Spot).

They sell Cherry Lane eggs at the TJ's I go to. I don't think they are fertile, but maybe the TJ brand jumbos are? They are refrigerated though, so I don't think it would be worth my time anyway. Congrats to you all, I bet they are the best layers you'll ever have!

Hi everyone... I am the gal that hatched 32 out of 38 TJ eggs (at lockdown I had 38 eggs)... Students at my school dissected the 6 that didn't hatch and all had VERY large unabsorbed yolk sacs...

Anyway, I am planning on doing this again this summer and creating a presentation for students so they can see how amazing it is to watch a chick develop.

Probably the MOST amazing thing about using TJ eggs is that you can see so clearly the development of the embryos.

It was such a kick to have so many sweet babies. I had almost exactly 50-50 boys to girls and by 5 weeks, the roos were so aggressive towards each other that I HAD to get rid of them... They are VERY easy to sex by 5 weeks...

Oh yeah, I am going to try to hatch out some brown eggs from a natural food store as well...

The Trader Joe boxes are green in color on top and have "Fertile Eggs" in the title. They're kind of hard to spot, though, because usually they're located waaaaay down low in the corner of the egg case in four out of five stores I've gone to.

The point is they ARE refrigerated store-bought eggs..... The hatch rates may not be great, but there are at least hatchings! And then, as in my last two dozen, sometimes not.... (yolks in most were pre-scrambled due to rough trucking out of state)
