Good luck! Should not be a problem. I had a dozend of 3 week old eggs and I hatched two. One rooster and one hen. The two most resiliant chicks on the planet

Louisville, Kentucky is going to have a Trader Joes opening up soon!
I have wanted to try hatching eggs from a grocery store since I've read it being done in BYC threads.... I've even looked at cartons in Krogers, Walgreens, Walmart, Meijers and Olde Time Grocery.
Well, this project is going to have to wait untill we get moved to Tennessee this summer, and back here for visits.

How cool that you are joining the TJs Eggsperimental Hatching Group!

Good luck and happy hatching!

Yeah, well, it's all fun and games until DH went to Whole Foods.

Where he found a dozen fertile eggs that were 3 days old.
6 blue eggs and 6 olive eggs that are likely fertile - apparently others have tried to hatch with good success.
AND 12 dark chocolate Maran eggs. Guy at store didn't know if they were fertile or not, but from the same farm as the EE eggs.

The new bator is FULL. For a whole $18. I did inform him if half of these hatch, he needs to build a new coop.

If it fails, it fails. It's fun at least.

Apparently we have a large population that like balut and fertilized eggs - knew the balut, we will sell it if requested - so TJ and WF have taken to stocking fertile eggs. Law of supply and demand.

So which Whole Foods carries not only fertile eggs but EE and Marans Eggs? I want some! Our Whole Paycheck doesn't even carry white fertile eggs. Could you tell us what farm sells these eggs so I can contact them and see if they sell to stores in my area? The only eggs that are fertile I've found so far are brown eggs from Chino Valley Ranchers--they are ISA Brown x white roosters. I may give them a go when my 'bator is empty., but Marans and EE eggs sound more fun!

The one near Milwaukee, WI does not, and states it is due to the supplier. Madison may get supplied by the same producers as the Milwaukee one, but there is no harm in checking!

Not sure which one he went to, or what the farm is. Did send an e-mail to corporate to see what's up. I have no idea. I was not on the shopping fun.

I was hoping for a general geographic region, not a specific address so that way if i am traveling in the area, I could drop in see if there are any fertile eggs available!

Ah. Those were Overland Park, KS. I think the one closer to us doesn't carry anything fun.

Well, first candling...

2 1/2 week TJ eggs - 4 possibles, 8 duds. Didn't bother trying further with them as really, that's pretty old, the shells are pretty thin and I don't want an egg going bad and exploding nasty gook in the bator.

10 day TJ eggs - 10 possibles, 2 duds. Did toss those 2 also. Again, nasty gook issue.

8 day TJ eggs - 12 possibles. I'm VERY impressed at that

3 day WH eggs - 12 possibles

Blue eggs - harder to see, but I think 5 are good. But they have good shells, so I'm going to let them all try.

Can't candle the olive or the dark eggs.

DH did agree to build a new coop. So even if this is a total failure in the end, we'll wind up getting more chickens
