Hi y'all - just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else: I got my very first order of chicks today (HAZZAH!), and instead of keeping the chicks at the post office and giving me a call to come pick-up, THEY LEFT THEM ON MY PORCH. We live out in the country a bit, and EVERYONE lets their dogs run free...not to mention the feral cats...could have been VERY BAD. The delivery lady called and left a message on my phone saying "Oh hey, I left some chicks on your porch." Luckily (for the chicks, anyway), my husband got ill and had to come home early from work and found them before the dogs did. Has that ever happened to anyone else? Seems crazy, leaving baby chicks on the porch like a UPS package or some such. I contacted the company I purchased from to alert them of the delivery error (with as much as we get charged for shipping, it ought to be done right), and they had never heard of a postal carrier doing that before. ANYWHO, babes are adorable and healthy and in one piece, so, SIGH OF RELIEF...

Oh my gosh! I would be fuming

and then thanking the chicken God

that they were alright! I am so happy your husband was able to come home early and find them. I would definitely call your local post office and complain! They are adorable though

so cute! What breeds did you get?

Thanks! I got 2 Golden Laced Wyandotte, 3 Easter Eggers, 1 Jersey Giant...then they had a failed hatch of Cochins, so I substituted 1 Buckeye and 1 Salmon Faverolle (I'm hooked on Derp...thought I'd give one a try...hehehe). Here are some better pics of the gals...

Congratulations on the new chicks. I am glad to hear that everything worked out on the delivery. I would have been very upset too if they had been left on my porch. Question. Did you call the local post office a couple of days ago to notify them that you had chicks coming and to please call as soon as they arrived? You should always do this.

No, but I did alert a random neighbor

(I saw who I *thought* was my postal carrier a few days ago - an older gal driving the same vehicle as our carrier, driving on the wrong side of the road, stopping at a battery of mailboxes - and started talking to her about the chicks coming in. When she looked at me like I had crabs crawling out of my ears, I realized my mistake...oops.) I never did follow-up with the REAL carrier/main PO...I will from now on, if I get more mail order chickies...don't want this to happen again...

Wow! Next time let the p.o. know they are coming and to call you first thing!

Those are good looking, and luck, chicks! Nice photos!

They are soooo cute. I just love seeing all the pics of baby chicks. I am pretty sure the only thing that beats out baby chick is baby pig. :)
