Hi all, well I guess my guesses were wrong and her preliminary results of her necropsy list were hemorrhagic fatty liver. I guess a tumor had burst and also her oviduct ruptured. I miss her and I feel kind of bad that before I left to go surfing I picked her up and told her to be quiet because she was squawking more than usual and in less than three hours I came back and she was dead

this surprises me because Coco was not overweight, she was really beautiful and in really good condition from the outside and she has plenty of room to exercise. She got a organic layer feed, Which I replenished daily, so it wasn’t moldy or old. I would give her meal worms, corn when in season and watermelon rinds. I rarely gave her crummy stuff like pasta or bread, even though she liked it, because I don’t really eat those things myself and I don’t think it’s good. She always free ranged for 3 hours on fresh greens, so I don’t understand why this happened

My chickens have an open area run that they are kept in during the day with about 100 sq ft. Per chicken, so it is not like they are crammed into an inhumane small space like a commercial chicken and then they get to free range over about 1/4 of an acre for three hours in the evening. This really bothers me, but I am glad she did not have anything infectious or any type of parasites. I guess it has just been hot and that’s why my chickens were breathing sometimes with an open beak. Last summer it got to be over 100°, so I could understand that, this year it was only about 88° and they have plenty of shade. Oh well, if anybody has any suggestions? Hopefully it is just a weird thing that happened.
