My broody muskovy was killed sometime yesterday.....I opened the night pen around 7:30 yesterday morning to let the other 4 out, and she was happily setting on her nest - we have babies due to hatch in the next week or so. When I came home from work around 5:00, I went to give her a treat - I bring her peas everyday since she is setting....when I got to the pen, I saw eggs all over the floor and hay and feathers everywhere.....I found what was left of her about 100 yards from the pen. I can't imagine what got her. We haven't had any problems with predators, except the occassional hawk or owl around dark. There haven't been any stray dogs around. It was awful. I cleaned up the pen and didn't let the other 4 out this morning. They will be mad - but better mad than dead. I have a female pekin, 1 female mallard, and 2 male mallards - anyone in Arkansas interested? This was too much for me - I didn't just loose a duck, she was my baby and we lost about 25 eggs......If you are interested, I would give them to someone who will take all 4 - they have grown up together (they are 1 year old).
