Trapping dogs - UPDATE

I have climbed over my gate and chased it away twice, when it crossed the road and was headed straight for that spot in the fence. But that was several weeks before any of this happened and now it only comes around when I'm not there. Also, I think there's a good chance it might try to bite me if I tried to grab it, it doesn't have the best temperament and it's not dumb enough for me to fool it into thinking that I'm friendly. I have gone after meaner dogs than this, but why take the chance.

The skunk thing sounded good for normal people but, as other posters have pointed out, she just wouldn't bring it in the house. Plus she'd probably figure the dog wouldn't go after a skunk a second time, etc. I'm wondering why she even has a dog since she cares so little for it. Maybe it's just to aggravate you.

You have to take it to a pound - out here tho they charge you for bringing a dog in. I don't mean to be a party pooper but, it seems like people who have dogs like she does, just go out and get another one.

There's a woman out here who collects dogs and she turns them loose, so many at a time. I suppose so it looks like less of them. When they run off, get stolen(?) or hit by cars (she is on a very busy street), she just goes and gets another . You know chicken math, well she has dog math, and there is always some new ones, running loose and harassing people, etc.

It would be best to agree with her, say that you are sure that it must be another dog that is harassing your livestock. And then add " Since I can't catch it while I am home I will have to drag out the leg-hold traps to set so they can do the work while I am gone." That may do the trick.

I agree with sending the dog to the pound. It would get pretty darn pricey breaking out of doggy jail. I also think the skunk scent mixed with a colorful paintball gun would be very cool. As long as the dog didn't get hurt of course. I think the woman might keep the dog locked up. But, for a more perminant solution the dog pound or a far away pound would be the best bet. I'm really not keen on killing the dog. If it were to attack me it would be a different story. Good luck.

too bad you can't tie out your mules where the dog comes under the fence. If she usually comes thru the same way, could you have some"surprise" waiting for her. Too bad you couldn't electrify just the part where she comes under the fence. She needs to think your fence hurts her, or your property etc. So maybe she better visit some other place.

So, in addition to being irresponsible, she's also a liar. Charming.

It's hard to come up with a fool proof plan to deal with irresponsible people. Those fools are just too good at what they do!

Sorry, at this point I'm thinking I agree with SSS. Dog is a killer, might bite , owner a liar, in denial and either way, OP gets blamed. Or drive far, far ( think road trip) away to a shelter and drop it off... Though then it's a problem for someone else.

Thought: if it's a light colored dog, what about blood evidence? Just a thought...wouldn't the owner wonder where the red came from? Eh..
