Tribute to @memphis and her Lapper turkeys

Cindy....its a different perspective with "city" girls. Speaking of city folk....the neighbors are starting to stream in to meet the new girls. Across the board....they are stunned by their beauty. Well...sort of...they are impressed by their beautiful feathers! The girls are curious with visitors but not allowing themselves to be petted yet. So Daisy is taking up the slack. She's a total flirt! She knows she'll get a snood pet and most likely a treat!
And a bit of sad news. Her little white fluffy ancient dog buddy has died. The owners came down to let me know. If you remember, Daisy was the only other animal the spoiled little mutt didn't attack. They both got a hen hug amid tears. Loosing their dog was tough for them.

Mowgli....glad your posting! It's easy to fall for turkeys. They are so engaging. Go over to Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys & check out all the different varieties. It's pretty amazing. So many varieties....so little time!
I purposely keep my flock small. Have the three young birds and my older girl Daisy. Easier to establish relationships with them.

And speaking of my teenagers! I got them to bed on time tonight avoiding Daisy rallying them on the porch to scream at me. They are really good about marching into the pen at bedtime. Rather proud of them.

My coop in nothing special. It started out as a 16×16 corrugated roofed chain link dog run. In the back area I added full height boards as a wind block on three sides. And their roosts. Also added hardware cloth to the exterior so nothing can get inside. It works for me. Its dry and they are out of the wind in cold weather. In the summer I hang box fans to keep the air moving. I worry more about the heat here than the cold.

Yep....mine know the bedtime routine too. I'm impressed that my two new girls caught on so quickly. Daisy helps. They are letting me pet them now. No laptime yet....but that's hard with Daisy around. She seems to be snoozing in my lap most of the time. But they have figured out I usually have a treat in my jacket pocket and will try to investigate. Smart girls!

UGGG! Rain & dropping temps. We may even have a few SNOW flurries next week. Guess the party is over. Cold wet weather & shorter days....just not my favorite time of year.

Guess I need to dig out the girls neck & leg warmers.
