Aurora...first time I ate a turkey egg I did a quick scramble, no salt or pepper, just wanted to taste it. I really like them! You need to try one!!

Is it true that folks who are allergic to chicken eggs can eat turkey eggs? I need to research that......

Ralph, that description is priceless! Did you really order one? I don't think I've seen a bird with the small eyes....if you can get a shot, I'd be interested. This baker is an "event baker". She does things like wedding cakes. She has a commercial space, but not open to the public. She loves to use the turkey eggs because they add a lot of moisture to her cakes. She heard I had hens through a mutual friend and contacted me about buying them. She said she'd buy all I have to sell. She has a few other "suppliers", but admits they are hard to find. I think you could market your extra eggs....

MNmom....how many turkeys are you starting out with?? I want to hear about your plans!

How is Snitch doing? Are you letting her out of the cage to exercise daily? Set up a chair next to her so you two can bond!!

Hmm, sounds like Snitch is in a snit. I suggest sitting next to her & handing her a few treats occasionally. In my very limited experience, just spending time, with no pressure on the bird, and feeding treats builds up that trust.

Hey Rjohn....glad you hopped over! We have a good time and I know the experts over here have taught me a bunch!! Love the pics of your flock. Wow, you really have a lot of wild hens showing up! Guess they like those exotic colored toms vs the native guys...??

Its addicting....but so worth it! Heck...I can hang on that site for a few hours just drooling over the turkey pictures. IN FACT....Ralphie has a few birds featured on his site!! That's right....Ralphie has a few famous birds!!

Didn't mean to scare you....but reports of hens starting to lay are popping up all over. Not in overwhelming numbers and spread all over the states. For some odd reason I sort of keep track of it. Last year at this time there were many more hens laying. This year...they seem slower to start. Many more hens are "Squatting".... so we have a bunch thinking about it!

Yes Finnie....that turkey sperm stays viable for quite awhile!

Florescent, incandescent, natural daylight all affect color differently. Some lighting is warm hued, some cool. The eggs shade of blue will change depending on the light you are viewing them in.

MNnice....my Bourbon hen is a hoot! She has to get her beak in the middle of anything I'm doing! She is also the most vocal. She doesn't hesitate to let you know what she thinks. And she is my little fashion critic. I don't think you can go wrong with any heritage breed! I'd keep an eye on what Mr. T is producing and JJ. Those are both very nice toms and I'd look for something from either one in hopes they pass on their sweet temperaments.

And what the heck! Annie is molting!!!

Temperament is huge in a breeding program. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Mr. T babies! I know with our dogs, we can look at semen under a microscope to check for motility. Can you do that with a turkey?
