Your farmer neighbor sounds, umm... like a Stew Pidasso! :old

Personally, I would see the bullies off who are creating that big of a laying issue in your flock, good layers or not. :drool They are replaceable IMHO.

I have interacted with people who have successfully used the peepers, taking a month or longer to see results. I probably wouldn't use them, as I have zero tolerance for bullies. It's odd how the dynamics are often what shapes MY flock of who comes and goes. The birds I still have or don't aren't what I would have originally thought of. But it is what it is, and my flock is *generally* good. It's awesome that you pay close enough attention to see who is causing the problems and take action.

Good luck with your solution. :fl

It basically is a supplemental income. If we get lazy and watch TV all day = zero financial gain and it becomes a money pit draining our main income. Working our way to self employment. We are coming on our 60's in a short time. Worked all our lives to pay off our mortgage. So if we work hard enough, anything is possible. Sweating busting you butt outside keeps you healthy and toxins draining out of your pours. Veggie gardens, animal care is our "work out gym" without a seasonal membership. We park in parking spots away from the entrances & walk to exercise instead of circling the lot looking for a close spot. We are weird compared to most I suppose but in our mid 50's, twice as active then most people in their 30's.
Chickens are a great way to keep a marriage together.. Spending quality time with your spouse is the best benefit. Thanks for the reply.

Ah, it helps to connect with your kids in many cases as well!

I also use animals as my way of keeping the computer/tv from sucking my life away. And living in the PNW, ya GOTTA have something to get you up and out on rainy days. And some days I'm tired, but I never dread it like I do exercising!

We also park outside the busy zone. Hubby USED to circle forever trying to get a spot closer, until he finally realized what a waste of time and gas that it was. :)

Congrats on paying off your mortgage! :celebrate That is huge and also our goal. :highfive:

We "only" owe 100K. But we did pay of my sons' house this year. :yesss: Hoping to pay it off in the next 2 years because hubby wants to retire. He turned 51 this year. And we have worked hard and made some sacrifice to be where we are today.

Now I just have to make anxiety quit controlling my thought and actions so I can peddle some of my products to cover their cost. But even then, I'm not paying for a gym membership, gas to get there or extra pain meds for sore joints, and who can count the long term mental and physical health savings. ;)

Kudos to you for choosing a healthy life style, and for being "money wise" and "marriage nurturing". Rare combination in today's society!

There would not be a need to ever trim the beak of a bird from a back yard flock unless she has a cross beak, or some other beak abnormality. Is she aggressive? Having problems eating?
That's not necessarily true, apart from genetic defects, as long term penned and caged birds can and often do fall prey to overgrown beaks and nails, in part due to lack of abrasive material that would naturally keep these two elements dulled down (As you're aware..).
