Trooper, the single hatchling

Trooper shares his/her birthday with me. A Libran chick :)

Happy late birthday!!
And also, I just thought I'd say, I'm almost certain that little Trooper is indeed a boy because the roosters tend to be stronger an are more likely to have the strength to get out of the egg. Cant wait to see him grow into a big rooster! :)

I was sooo sure one of last years chicks was a rooster because of its bravado and inquisitive nature at only two weeks of age but nope, she's all lady and still inquisitive and the bravest one I have. Stays out roaming around long after the others have gone home to bed. I have to pick her up and put her in the pen. Incidentally that's the one I had to break out of the shell as mum had taken the others outside and left it to go cold alllll day. I held the ball of fluff next to my warm body for a few hours and she began to cheep, after another hour and it was bedtime I put it back under mum and the other two day old chicks. Next day she was as right as could be. She;s called Rosie and is one of our favourites depsite the fact that she is the cleverest and can get into any area that's cordoned off or escape the run when they are locked up. Maybe I should have called her Houdini?

Look at him acting like a big bird!

I'm betting this one is a girl.

(But I'm a terrible gambler).

I'm actually hoping he's a roo... I'm always hoping for hens, but my RIR roo (Trooper's dad, Steve) has recently become a real meanie who kicks me on the legs whenever he's out. So it will be nice to have a young roo to take over from Steve...

Thanks from both of you. :)

Oh yes he just loves trying to fly with those wings... But with 3 drooling Jack Russell terriers awaiting his landing at my feet I have to be quick to catch him when he tries to fly..
