TULSA area Cluckers

Yes I ordered leg bands from Cutler Supply online, they are a fabulous place for chicken supplies. I use size 4 for new chicks, sizes 6 and 8 for growers, and size 10 for these guys. Wanted to keep track of my genetics and where my birds came from. I just ordered bags of asst colors but you can request certain colors as well. If you order from them be sure to add a catalog to your order, it's free as long as you are ordering other stuff, too and it has many more things in it than their online store.

Thanks looking now. Did you get your cream legbar trio?

Yep, it's actually a quad, three hens and a rooster. Also an Ameraucana hen from her. And one of them laid this morning, a pretty blue egg indeed! Just not sure if it's Ameraucana or CL!

Awesome. How do you quarantine? I have chick brooders in my garage. Thought about cleaning a space out of one of the sheds. Can you quarantine birds from several places in the same area? curious because I am getting a rooster from someone else. Before chicks I just kept them in cages in my garage.

Yes you can but of course if you are quarantining several groups together what one group has they may all catch. Also some very contagious diseases can be spread by your clothes/tools/shoes. Best bet is to have bleach and a scrubber to treat your shoes as you came and go to care for quarantined birds, even better if you can change clothes, too. And keep a buffer between the quarantine birds and any that might be free ranging. I would not put a quarantined bird in the garage where chicks are brooded. Many chicken diseases can be spread through the air.

Right now we are using the cowboy coop with our original 12'x6'x3'tall run in the garden (55ft x 75 ft garden), that way it gives a little buffer from the rest of the yard where the free rangers are. I put the Ameraucana in with the Cream Legbars because they all came from the same lady. I trust her and her birds and don't expect the quarantine to bring any diseases up, it's just a standard for us since we lost a large batch last fall from CRD from auction birds. I will quarantine them for a full 30 days if I can.

Do you think a spray bottle with bleach water for the shoes will work? Not sure the neighbors would appreciate me changing clothes out for everyone to see.

The bleach water in a spray bottle on the shoes is about the best I could do. I need to look for some cheap slip on shoes that I could put on at the door. Good ideas. I am really paranoid about getting a bird from someone else but I guess people do it all the time.

Yes I would spray your shoes and then rub them on one of those rough ourdoor rugs, or on a boot cleaner. We have a boot cleaner shaped like a U with bristles inside so it rubs the sides and bottoms of the shoe as you run your foot along it. Works great. Not sure where to find one though- it came with the 1958 house we bought! On the clothes I meant to go INSIDE and change before you go to other birds LOL. Kind of a pain. Not worth it for me. But I will clean my shoes good. And either "rest" the pen for 10 days or spray it inside with hydrogen peroxide followed by white vinegar. Not mixed together- one and then the other. It is a disinfectant combination that can kill germs on porous surfaces like wood (bleach can only kill germs on non-porous surfaces).

I kind of had pictured one of those biohazard suits that you zip on and off. Not sure the changing clothes a couple times a day is worth it to me. I have enough laundry to do already. Thanks for the tip on the Hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar.

I'm new on here and from Tulsa. My husband and I are wanting to get 5 chicks but I realized that none of the online places sell less than 15 right now. Does anyone know of another place or somewhere close to Tulsa where we can buy 5chicks? We are wanting to buy them in the next week. Thank you so much for your help.
