Turkey Talk for 2014

It usually takes me until they are roughly 12weeks old to be able to know gender for certain. Some you can tell slightly sooner or later.

We went to a swap meet/trader days yesterday and seen a blue slate tom there that I liked and I almost bought. He had just a little bit of faded brown on a part of his tail. Do blue slates usually have a little brown?

Probably a lilac (bronze with a double slate gene). They are rare. I have a hen. She's gorgeous. Look on www.porterturkeys.com under lilac & see if it matches.

I think it might be,but he didn't fan out his tail but had a little brown on it so maybe. I'm thinking about heading down there to get him here in a little bit

He would be a great addition. Especially if you can find a hen for him. They breed true & are pretty rare.

I am happy to say that I put my 2 poults outside yesterday YAY haha they are about 5 wks old, they had been in a round dog pen & were getting very restless so I fixed their grow out pen up & they love it out there :) I have a coop for them also & I locked them in it last night, went out this morning & they were just a talking away!
So now a month or so in grow out & they should be able to go out w/ my 8 hens, to make room for 2 chicks I have in the brooder now, as I have 8 chicks coming end of May
lots of switching around but oh so worth it :)

Hi Everyone,Hope its o.k. to ask a question! I have a hen royal palm hen turkey that wont lay in a nest.We have one large nest on the ground and she shows no interest in it.We also have a large nest about 4 ft off the ground. She has dropped an egg around the pen a couple times but mostly lays them at night and they drop a good distance to the ground. She is healthy other wise. Any Ideas on what to do? Has anyone else had that problem?

Lean a board against the coop wall near the corner so it makes a dark tent. See if she likes that as a nest.
