Turkey Talk for 2014

Poor thing didn't make it! I just found out my daughter found a dead chicken chick yesterday too!

Can turkeys & chickens both get Cocci??

Awww...I'm so sorry.

I know both species can get it, but isn't one of the symptoms usually severe diarrhea?

sorry to hear about your poult.

Hate to ask but what symptoms did he have?

I lost a few earlier that became listless, droopy winged.

Well I asked because I noticed the other poult today had a almost clear liquidy poo with gel like stuff in it. Couldn't decide if it was red or orange. :/

That was it really, that I noticed. Went from fine to sleepy, and dropped wings, to couldn't walk or stand, to dead.

What kind of a turkey would you get by crooning a bourbon red and a white holland? I have hatched some poults but they look more like an eastern wild turkey. I wonder if my bourbon red hen got mixed up with a wild tom.

I crossed a BR tom with a BBW and got a beautiful looking tom that looked very similar to a BBB but was in between the size of a BBB and a BR.

Your description of your poults leads me to believe they could very well be from a BR white holland cross.

Oh that would be fabulous!!

Couple of questions....
Three of the poults (the first three to hatch, and so far I've been able to tell them apart from those that hatched later) are eating and drinking like champs. So my questions are...will the rest automatically learn by their example? and...by tomorrow I probably won't be able to tell them apart, so how will I know if all of the poults are eating and drinking on their own, or if it's just the same three?

It looks like you have a good hatch going.

Congratulations.

The later poults should learn from the older ones.
