Two things I've learned NOT to do around chickens

We hadn't had our chickens very long last summer and DH wore his shorts out in the chicken yard. He had a good sized cherry angioma on his calf (it looks like a mole but is a coil of dilated capillaries under the skin). One of our Golden Comets took one look at it and decided she wanted it. Pecked it right off! He came running in the house with blood streaming down his leg. He soaked through two or three gauze pads and I told him that I didn't think he had to worry about infection with how profusely it bled. It is gone now and hasn't come back.

We are all very careful about what is exposed when we are with the chickens. Moles, scabs, painted toenails, earrings, hoody strings, buttons, rivets, etc.....It's all fair game to them!

My roo is seriously ticked off at me right now from switching from my black rubber knee-high coop boots to pink flip flops. Every morning he comes hopping outta the coop screaming his fool head off as a warning to the girls.

I learned today to never place fingers in a cage full of hungry chickens;) I was taking the girls ouside this morning and they acted like mmy fingers were bread!

Yeah, chickens LOVE bread. It's the best thing EVER, to a chicken. Well, next to worms. I find a worm, in the garden and hold it up and all activity in the backyard ceases.

If I hand feed them, the Rhode Islands take huge mouthfuls but the bantams take one pebble at a time, all dainty. If your hand is beneath the mouthful, the RIs will yank and tug, on your skin.

I cant wear my PJ's to the coop...

they try to eat the little flowers off my shirt

I've only had my girls since Monday and I've already learned the hard way about my ring. Ouch!

I let them out for awhile while my dad was over and they kept going for his toes and the shiny buckle on his sandals!

It's going to be crocks for me when I'm out playing with them from now on.

Well, I just learned last night NOT to wear a strapless top or dress while hanging out with my banty roo. He tried to make his way onto my shoulder for a treat and OUCH. My whole right arm is bloody and scraped!!!

My son learned the toe lesson... I DID try to warn him.

But, even with just plain ol' crocs on my girls still get nosey tosey.

Lesson learned... open door, toss in treat... even if it's just crumbles they will still rush to investigate and beat out their sisters... and you can go about your duties.
