U.S. Flag RANT!!! and some info...

A year or so ago I was waiting outside my sons school to pick him up. There were a couple of boys taking the flag down for the day. I sat in disbelief as they placed the US flag on the ground to wad up the other flag (TX flag). I grabbed my cell and called the office and said "I am going to tell you this as calmly as I can that the boys need to be taught how to properly take down the flag, it does NOT go on the ground". Had I said something to the boys I would have had to yell across the lot and it would have been ugly. This year the local VFW went to the school and showed them how to properly raise and take down the flag.

I could tell more than a couple of stories of acts of disrespect to the flag when we lived in CA. It really burns me up.

Good job! It makes my heart smile that there are people like you out there willing to defend our flag.

Though it makes me angry that there's a necessity for such.

I know how you feel about that, A couple years ago I was on duty for taking the flag down after school with a 'friend', and all of a sudden he ran off saying he was going to be late (even though he walks home) and left me to do it myself, do you know how hard it is to properly fold a flag yourself with out it touching the ground? Then this kid went by, knocked it from my hands, and continued to walk all over it, trampling it on the ground.

I ended up folding it up on the picnic table

Funny thing is, I had to go back to the classroom, then my locker, and catch the bus and I was never late.

One would think so. I've seen the flag on business signs such as furniture stores. I would think having the U.S. flag on an airplane, especially next to a name like "U.S. Airlines", would fit the definition of "do nots" above. I would also take it to mean all those costumes where people wave little U.S. flags on sticks have to go, too.

I know the President wears a flag pin, amoungst other people, and didn't that one plane have a flag printed on it? I don't remember the name.. They should set up some laws on it all, and make sure everyone knows about it so everyone is clear on what to do.

I know that I am not American but I thought i would chime in here..

my DH's family is / was a military family. My FIL died when my DH was only 3 years old. When I was inquiring about stuff, family history about my FIL side i was handed a moldy box of things from the basement. In that box was the flag that was draped over my FIL's coffin at his funeral. I was shocked, saddened, disgusted, and angry all on once. not a good thing to do to a woman who was 7 months pregnant at the time. I got the flag home and promptly called the local armory and they said they would have a look and see what can be done with this flag. I took it into them and got the sad news that nothing could be done the black mold stains were permanent, it was in such bad shape that they could not even get it to fold properly so that I could have it mounted and possibly have the stains hidden..

Because the flag that was used at my FIL's funeral is no longer in service and its not the typical Canadian flag. I am at a loss for making this wrong right..

(FIL died in 1975, MIL remarried 1977...so that should have told me something there)

edited for spelling...

I was telling one person several years ago about the rules of flying the USA Flag and they just looked at me like I was crazy. I was honored to have our first USA Flag and read everything I could find about it. The person asked me "so what happens if you don't do all that? Who's going to do anything? What can they do to you and who goes around looking for all that?". People need to learn what all and who all our flag stands for. Proud Family member to several Servicemen

I remember the case in your state where some mexican kids thought it was fun to fly the flag upside down below the mexican flag. THey should have hung them up by their undies on the pole.

That happened just a couple of months before we left CA. And you know when one idiot does something others follow. I remember seeing the Mexico flag above the US flag on several peoples cars. Then there was the one where some guy sewed the US flag to the Mexico flag so that one side was US and the other Mexico and thought it was "cool". It really irks me that people want so badly to live in America and at the same time completely disrespect it.

Last year there was a political rally for a candidate where they handed out flags to everyone who came. When it was over people were throwing their flags in the trash and on the ground. Even the flags that were left over were by the dumpster. The local boy scouts picked up all thegood flags they could the next couple of days and took them to the other candidates next big rally and handed them out. I've withheld the names of the candidates because it's not about the candidates as much as about the people who disrespected the flag.
