Yes. Same with adult chickens, they'll poop out grit once it gets too worn down or small for use. You'll probably never see it unless you're into sifting through chicken poop.

The given sizes in the first picture gives me piece of mind in using noncommercial grit. The second picture is where I picked up a couple of cups of grit today.
