So, in some of my recent posts, I’ve been saying I used to have 5 chooks. I did, until muffin (we don’t know what gender but oh well) passed away. We know it was mareks. It has been at least 2 months since and none of the others have caught it. Any thoughts? Also, I’m fairly sure muffin had a disability of some sort.

2 purebred light sussex & 2 crossbreeds. One being a light sussex x (maybe Wyandott) and a (maybe) light sussex x EE

Did you have a necropsy/confirmation of Marek's?

Birds can be carriers but have no symptoms, so just because no others have been ill or shown symptoms doesn't mean they don't have Marek's.

Right. That means all of them are like that then. And yes, we were told it was mareks but nothing else. we thought that she had it genetically

You were told by whom? Was the bird necropsied?
Marek's is a virus, not something passed genetically. Some other things can mimic the symptoms of Marek's, so it's important to have it verified by necropsy and not just assume.

we were told by my vet over a call. We were going to get muffin surrendered but he died Just before we got him in the car

Since you've lost another, it might be worth a phone call to the vet that saw the first one to ask if they necropsied the bird, or what basis they believe Marek's was the cause. Not to argue, but to be sure of the facts. If they did not necropsy, then it would be a good idea to send this one for necropsy. Marek's is very contagious, but not all birds will necessarily show symptoms. If it is indeed Marek's then your flock is considered infected, and carriers. In that case it would be best for you to do some reading and research to learn about it so you can make decisions going forward. Depending on the strain of virus there, it can be managable. It can be very different in different flocks, symptoms can vary.

well uhhh, he died before we could go to the vet so we cancelled the appointment. my mothers co-worker buried him at his house. and thank you
