UK Member Please Say HI

Oh no I'm so very sorry :hugs
It is always hard to make that decision and its not one anyone makes lightly. But when you know it's time, it's time for it to be done. For small chicks I do the gassing method ~ http://www.waldeneffect.org/how_to_cull_chicks/
It's always worked well for me and been peaceful.
thankyou I've been sat watching it and it's not fair to let it pretty much get around on one leg. It's eating etc I just don't know what else to do I've been trying since it hatched to fix it. I'll look into the gassing method I'd much rather that than anything gory

Happy bank holiday everyone. Some happy stories and some sad ones - I hope everyone is ok.

It's rainy here in the East Midlands, but I'm really excited. After a fox attack took my rooster +some girls over winter I've been wanting to get a replacement and Saturday was the 1st special sale at the local auction. Tough competition, but some new additions to my flock.

All good here thank you :highfive: A bit rainy though but that's nothing unusual for Yorkshire :lol:

Those are some lovely new birds you have there, very nice :)

@Nannette114 First gosling just hatched :wee
Number 4 has pipped but it's malpositioned and pipped at the wrong end of the egg. I'm thinking the egg may have been stored the wrong way up prior to incubation. I had no control over the storage prior to picking them up :barnie

@Yorkshire Coop
Hi Kim

Gosh that is a lot of good lush grass Harry has to himself! I worry more about it doing harm than good these days since Reb's colic last year and of course the risk of laminitis. I'm still strip grazing and it's brown on one side of the fence and now 6-10 inch lush grass on the other. I've had a few emerald green sloppy poos but so far no upset tummies and lovely shiny coats coming in. I have ridden a few times recently, the most recent was last Tues when we took Reb and Rascal out. We hadn't had the two of them out together since last Autumn and Rascal was absolutely full of it, so we had to take it very steady and keep him as calm as possible....my sister still had a bumpy ride on him though:eek: and MeMe was extremely unhappy about being left at home on her own.....what a mess I had to clean up in the yard and stable when we got back!

Sorry I didn't reply to your message on my profile page. I tried to respond yesterday but it just kept kicking me out....probably a problem with my ancient computer rather than the site. Hope the grass does Harry the world of good and helping a girly lose weight in the process.... maybe that's what I need!

How is your incubating going? You must be about due for more goslings to hatch although I have rather lost track of time.

Things are hectic here as ever. We are now well into swarming season and I've been getting a phone call almost every day for the past 2 weeks mostly about bumble bees nests but some honey bees too. People just don't seem to be able to live in harmony with nature these days and see everything as a threat and pest control will not deal with honey or bumble bees, so beekeepers seem to be their only recourse. I travelled the best part of 100 miles and spent 3 late evenings removing bumble bee nests last week from home owners that absolutely could not let them stay and giving advice over the phone to countless others. Poor Ian has hardly seen me and my garden is becoming rather over populated with them.
Must head off now and deliver some horse manure.... Look forward to seeing picks of goslings again soon and some of the half grown ones too if you have some.... I know they are not with you anymore but imagine you will have been visiting.

Best wishes

Barbara

PS. Just seen your posts (above) about goose eggs pipping and hatching. For some reason I have not been getting alerts about this thread being updated so I only read and replied to your post about the field sharing, which you tagged me on. Now I realise I've been missing a whole load of stuff....

@timon

Looks like you got yourself a nice pair of cream legbars. I hope she lays you some lovely blue eggs.

oh no!!! How frustrating! I'm a total control freak when it comes to hatching eggs. The farmer who gave me my Embden eggs hadn't been turning themin storage and it was so annoying that one had a wrecked air call because of it.
Will you assist the hatch? Let ma know how it goes!
Have you any pics of the one that's hatched?

@rebrascora

Yes it is a lot of grass! Harry is not complaining though! I've only let him have just over a couple of hours on it today. Will add a bit more time each day until he can stay on and then move his field buddy Brandon on to it with him. Bran does not really need it but he still gave me the guilt trip when he was in their normal field and Harry on the good grass. He was looking longingly at Harry :oops:

Glad to hear you have got out riding, that really is great news :clapEven if it was a bit bumpy and you had tidying up to do, at least you got out!
Gosh you sound busy there with the bees :th
I'm pleased to report that I do not kill bees of any kind but I do kill wasps! Can't stand the things!

Yes hatch is going ok barring the malpositioned one but we will see with that one. If 4 out of the 6 hatch I will be happy but will check the last 2 later tonight incase I need to do a safety hole in them. The pheasant are looking good too and are on day 9.

As for the alerts if you make sure you read the last post of the thread you should get an alert next time someone posts. Or you can check out your watched threads here ~

Yes very frustrating but that's how the cookie crumbles I guess. Yes I will assist it if I need to but that's going against the grain for me. But I will give it a chance.
Yeah will get some pics of the new one, just waiting for it to come to the front of the incubator :pop

ok here's what I'm gonna do this evening I'm gonna investigate and unzip I will take pics I think I might dampen the others to is this a good idea?
