@Gge23

Good to hear that your chicks are improving. Have you tried putting your lone 9 week old chick in with your younger Scots Greys. If you put her into their environment she is less likely to be defensive, or perhaps put them all into neutral territory if their brooder isn't big enough. You could make a separate cage for her for a few days so they can get used to each other in safety before being able to properly interact.

I have to say, those Scot's Greys are incredibly cute, but looking like quite a few boys in that group, unless I'm very much mistaken!

Hi Sasha

Your flock is very colourful. I love mixed flocks. The gold pencilled bird in the second photo is particularly striking. What is she?

Hi @rebrascora

Thank you, I think you are referring to the mother...that is "Tyga" and she's my Partridge Laced Wyandotte. She is a super broody and raised chicks for us last year too (of her own), she's adopted these for us, she sat but my young cockerel did not produce any fertile eggs. Very calm and docile and a great hen to have about!

No you are quite right...my luck has once again been naff and I have 4 cockerels and 1 pullet :( kinda wanted a couple more pullers but beggars can't be choosers! We have made a bigger run for the 9 week old so I should think the other 5 might be able to fit in with her actually...good idea! Thank you ^_^

I know how you feel it's definitely been a cockerel year for me as well, dose not matter much with my table birds but my Buff Rocks have turned out 4 cockerels and 1 Pullet

If anyone would like a young cockerel your more than welcome as there's not enough meat on them for me.

@Dave C

Sorry to hear you are in the same boat but there's a lot more meat on a buff rock than a bantam pekin and I've got 12 cockerels of those so far. The worst of it is that they are so desperately cute, it makes culling them even more difficult. I will probably strip the breast meat off them when I eventually do the deed but they have a little more growing to do yet.

There must be someone somewhere who is getting our share of pullets! I keep thinking I will do better next year! I must be due 100% pullets before long to even the odds out... looking forward to that gold strike!

It's only been my first year of incubating, but each of my hatched I have only had one pullet...so so far that's 9 cockerels, 2 pullets...I am dreading finding out what the two chicks are that my broody has hatched

not looking forward to have to take any cockerels off her, she's very aggressive! But I love her all the same ^_^ here's hoping my ducks don't come out all drakes!!

We only had 2 successfully hatch last year and they both turned out to be boys (to add to my head lad)....Mr Fox dealt with 2 and left me the 1 infertile one....I'm hoping for 1 cockerel this year and some pullets. Not looking promising for me though either, 3 silkies, so tough to sex for quite a while but i reckon at least 2 are boys, just due to their behaviour and 2 Thuringian's.....new breed to me so I'm clueless....where are the girls???!!!!

I know! I think our luck has seriously run out...I'm lucky that the Scots Greys are pretty easy to sex early on as the hens tend to stay black whereas the boys go that lovely white and grey...just so frustrating as I'd hoped earlier on that 3 of them were pullets...nevermind! Any plans for the weekend anyone?

Fairly early start for me, bird duties done, dog to walk then we have to go to a barbecue for my niece's 1st birthday...last thing i fancy after a few too many cocktails in the sunshine last night! Chucks & ducks have to entertain themselves this afternoon. They wont be amused as they'll have to be penned in :cd
