UK Member Please Say HI

Hi jemima. Glad to hear your hens are keeping you busy! Lucky that the cat didn't get in though! I have a few round me but luckily they don't seem bothered in the hens. With your broody I'd recommend putting them in a cage. I know it's horrible but it is the quickest way to break them. The longest I had to do it for was 3 days and that was a mega determined Brahma. I've tried other methods and this has been the only way that's worked for me. Don't worry to much about the eggs I'm only getting 6 from 20 hen's! The weather doesn't help now its getting colder and half my girls are molting as well!
Thank you, do I put her in the cage during the day in the run and let her sleep in the coop at night? The cage wouldn’t fit in the coop.

Sorry for late reply. Some people do that but I've always just left her in the cage with fresh food and water. Take the bottom out and raise it on bricks to let the cold air cool her down. Something like this. I put her in my garage.

Ah! Thanks! That sounds like a plan!
My breeder says she’s young so she should snap out of it fairly quickly. I’ve locked her out of the coop today and if she’s still the same tomorrow I’ll put her in broody jail lol x

Lucky escape there with the cat @JemimaP! My little cat Kitty is scared of the chickens but then again she is a runty cat that I got from the farm! Did have a feral one come in the garden a few times last winter but managed to scareit away.
I think the chickens gave as good as they got haha. Hopefully scared it away. My daughter heard the ruckus and says it looked like the chickens were at the run door fighting back and the cat ran off without us intervening. One of my girls had a scratch on her beak and there were a lot of feathers around so I think it was pretty full on poor things!
At least they have bonded with their coop now ready for the winter weather!
