We had Kipper cremated when she passed on at 14 years of age.

She is still sat in the urn on the shelf in the office. Over 2 1/2 years later still can’t quite let go Still miss her everyday.

Anyway Hi again. hope you are keeping fine. I have been quite busy looking after the chickens,working and learning a ceramic trade not even watched tv much. Hopefuly i will have a bit more time soon.

I have a friend who recently lost a young cockerel to chicken sudden death syndrome, they think a heart attack but not sure, she saw it happen, one second it was happily picking at grass, next second gone - he let out a squawk, a few flaps of its wings and that was it. Apparently chicken SDS is quite common and like infant SDS is unexplainable, might be an explaination? I really feel for you, loss is hard enough but to lose a favourite and especially one you hatched must be so hard to face.

I was wondering when I found mine her head was twisted in like it was broken. Not sure if she paniked about something and hit her head in the coop.. or it could be as you say SDS. Ive been boggling with it all day.

There always more than just pets. We have to just give them as good a quality of life whilst there here.

hi and ! I used to live down your way - near Castelnaudary / Mirepoix - my eldest was born in Castel' and my 2nd in Carassonne! We are up in the Dordogne now.

Awww that is sad - my Australorp was the same age when she just died for no reason.

I was wondering when I found mine her head was twisted in like it was broken.

That is weird, my girl was the same - I wondered if she'd run into a tree (there was one nearby).

I've just had some terrible news. A very good friend of mine has had one of his horses die. With all the fireworks, someone had let off some airbombs next to his field. His horse panicked and stressed so much it twisted its guts. The vet had been out with him all night but sadly he died. The horse was 18 and called Eddie. My friend had him from a foal. He and his daughter are absolutely devasted. They don't know if the fireworks were from someone's house or kids messing around. Either way, why can these types of fireworks be purchased? Keep them to organised displays. They shouldn't have them for garden parties. A few moments of 'fun' have caused so much heartache and pain.

So sorry to hear such awful news about what happened to your friends horse. There seems to be sad news on here lately.

Ohh my gosh this is awful, I am so sorry to hear this.
I tried calling the police on nearby neighbours who set off approx 10-15 fireworks all at the same time, a few times over, noise was such that even my grandson was petrified and still jumps at sudden noises, - fall out from the fireworks showered my garden onto my run, could hear the debris hitting the tarpaulin, it was hard plastic, my daughter and I believe they may have been show fireworks, (which are illegal in residential settings) they were so much louder than usual back garden fireworks plus all the debris is plastic - hard shards of plastic - where as debris from other neighbours fireworks are cardboard. Calling the police was useless, they are powerless to do anything, as they were let off within the allowed times and we had no proof of them being show fireworks. We took my grandson to an organised event held at a local school situated in the "middle of nowhere" even these fireworks weren't as bright nor as loud as the nearby neighbours, which I believe were worse because they were letting them off at the same time. Thankfully my birds survived it, but my hen has stopped laying, not that I care about eggs, just is I suspect its the stress of the fireworks, and all my birds are unusually nervous and "jumpy" .
