Hello, thought I would introduce myself. I’m English but now live is SW France. I have three hens, started with four in July 2017 but one died of cancer.
Crash course in dealing with severe chicken injuries when our delightful neighbour (not) got a new young dog. Have an Omlet cube with a two metre walk in run plus a smaller Omlet Go when we had to nurse the hens back to health in our hall.
Our hens are going through various stages of moulting, one of which is turning into a right diva! Other fun is the very big hen that can’t jump up into the cube and won’t walk up the ladder like the others. After a couple of months of trying to catch her and then put her in the cube we now have her trained to go to bed on her own in the Go. It’s got extra insulation jackets so she should stay warm.

Oh no. I'm so sorry. :hugs I have an area that I Bury mine. Unfortunately it's getting quite full. She can't have been that old. Do you know how it happened?
I had a similar problem with years of pets ranging from hamsters, budgies, chinchilla's, cats, rabbits, goldfish, and a duckling :( when my 4 cats died I had them cremated then buried them in the little cremation boxes they are in, and planted flowers on top.

I recently had one of the araucanas I hatched die. We came home and she was just lying on the floor next to the feeder. I don't know why or what happened. Sometimes there can be an underlying health issue. Doesn't make it any easier. My heart goes to you. It's always the favourite ones that seem to go first. How are your others?
I have a friend who recently lost a young cockerel to chicken sudden death syndrome, they think a heart attack but not sure, she saw it happen, one second it was happily picking at grass, next second gone - he let out a squawk, a few flaps of its wings and that was it. Apparently chicken SDS is quite common and like infant SDS is unexplainable, might be an explaination? I really feel for you, loss is hard enough but to lose a favourite and especially one you hatched must be so hard to face.

Hi Sorry i havent been on here for a while. but my favourite chicken (Joffreys first born) was found this morning and passed over the land of rainbows. What would I do with her now ?

We had Kipper cremated when she passed on at 14 years of age.

She is still sat in the urn on the shelf in the office. Over 2 1/2 years later still can’t quite let go :hmm Still miss her everyday.

There always more than just pets. We have to just give them as good a quality of life whilst there here.

Thanks. My DW actually found her and was in tears. It could be SDS. She was on 4 month old.
