UK pigeon owners

Pics
I am not really sure I do know it took him less than 24 hours as I do not know exactly what time he escaped or when exactly he arrived at his home loft. The party I sold him to called and informed me the day of his escape. He was there the next day sometime after noon.

I do know pigeons are not supposed to fly at night unless properly conditioned and trained to do so.
That is quicker than normal post! Pigeon post wins! If he flew for exactly 24 hrs he averaged 30 mph constant non stop. He will have been faster. I'm sure he had a break or sleep somewhere! A real champion!

I could tell Jackson parents were good racing stock but could not catch either of them so I robbed the nest that was located beneath the Gunningsville bridge (horse and buggy structure now is long gone and replaced). I may have been 12 years old at the time. I sold the bird to a fellow fancier who moved away to Gatineau when the bird was about 10 years old. I advised to never release him as I had already sold him a number of times and the new owners finally just gave up on him and told me to keep him after raising champion birds from his offspring. I guestimate his age at about 16 years old when he finally gave up the ghost in his home loft in Moncton.

Just one of the many birds I had who I will never forget as long as I have a memory.
Amazing story. I'd never heard of a bird, other than members of the parrot family, that lived to be that old.

Well I got my loft! What a pain in the proverbial! And that was just getting there! It had to be completely dismantled. Took about an hour. It's a good size though. Plenty big enough for Boomer! And a few friends. He chucked in a whole bunch of stuff. There was three feeders/drinkers, a two foot trough feeder, five wooden perches, a brand new bonfire and a segregation thingy, a sack of corn and a sack of roller feed! All for the sum of £30! Well happy. Unfortunately I forgot the instructions to rebuild it. It's been cobbled together so I have had to remeasure and recut some wood to try and level it but it's getting there!

It is a great size, NOW GET MORE BIRDS..... :gig Price was nice as well. :thumbsup

On that thought,,,,,,, You mentioned that you can get some from your parents Farm??? I would not hesitate doing that myself. I know you had concerns about biosecurity. Remember,,,,,,,,, don't live life being afraid of your shadow...

That too right! I don't think they've got any nasties. They have only the best feed and plenty of exercise! I'll be paying a bit more attention to what's flying around now for sure! I keep thinking about maybe getting some rollers. They give such a display, until they nosedive and hit the ground! Told my neighbour (not the horrible one) that I was getting some pigeons, it went down like a ton of bricks:oops:! She older and scared of them!

Show her some pics of Pidove. :p The most Pidove would do is sneeze-grunt in annoyance if you stop petting.

I cant believe how friendly Pidove is! I wonder if because you found her when she was injured and nursed her back to health she sees you as her protector? I wonder how she would race? She probably fly back alongside your car pecking the window trying to get in!!

She'd probably just sit on my shoulder, or on the back or on the handles of my bike. :p She can fly very well, but she seems to prefer being on the ground or perched on something unless in a hurry, like heading to food. :lau

As for why she is so friendly, I am at a loss also! She shows signs of having possibly being hand raised though.
