The symphytum pills arrived today. I got him out expecting a battle to get him to swallow one....no! He let me open his mouth and I dropped one straight in! No struggles, he didn't even move his head away when I opened his mouth! He's such a good little patient! I put some cream on his leg give him a little bit of fuss and put him back! No worries! His leg is still really swollen though. I have also ordered some plastic leg splints for pigeons! Only £1.50 for three from my feed store. It seems that broken legs on pigeons is a fairly common occurance. Hopefully not too common though!
I also let boomer and the three older younsters out. They were off like a rocket. Two came back about 10mins later boomer and squeak are still awol. It's dark out now I've left the trap open. Hopefully they will be back in the morning. I'll be gutted to lose either of those two.

X3! In the case of chickens, one patient picked up the pellets off a ceramic plate in the blink of an eye. lol They probably appeared to be seeds, and they are in a milk sugar (sac lac) base so they have a sweet taste.
Hope to hear Boomer and the youngster are back. Was it the first time out for the 3 ybs?

They are the first 3 younsters that hatched. They have been flying together for a while now. Boomer returned at 0700 this morning . Without squeak . There seems to be a pattern emerging with boomer losing whoever she flys with. I'm leaving the trap open. I'm hoping nothing has got him and hell find his way back today.

Just got the call I wanted, squeak is back! Looking knackered but uninjured! I wanted to let papa pigeon out tonight but I think a day or two in to calm MY nerves are in order!

Yes. It actually fills me with confidence. I have no idea where or how far away he was when boomer abandoned him. So he has spent a night out alone and found his way home alone. I don't want to be over confident with him but I do think he will be a good pigeon!

The pigeon prosthesis arrived today.

I'm not sure if I am going to use it. He is putting more weight on it now but it is still quite badly swollen.

Does this look 'normal' for a broken leg?
